Hey everyone! I haven’t talked to you in a while so I thought I’d check in and give you all the news I have. No, no opening date yet. Just days I’m HOPING for but nothing set in stone. I don’t even have anything set in marshmallow…
It’s been about 2 months since the accident. It took about 5 weeks to get the go-ahead from my landlord’s insurance and start construction. It took another week and a half (and some light-hearted pestering) to get the permits. Then another week or so for them to actually START.
Behind the ugly board-up now (Don’t worry, I WAS asked if I wanted the pretty one but with nowhere to put it, I declined), the framing of the big window is done (!!!) and I think we are waiting for the town to inspect before construction can continue. The town has to inspect before every stage, I guess. Before drywall, before new windows, blah blah blah. That’s what will probably hold up the show more than anything.
After the damaged side is done, the other half will come off and I will be getting a new door, and a new UN-TINTED WINDOW (!!!!!!!!!!!!) And in funner news, I’m making a couple small changes that will allow me to make some significant tweaks to the inventory I can carry.
Ohhh those floor-to-ceiling shelves came down!! I only kept a couple and I hope you can imagine how nice that wall is going to look when it’s all sanded and painted and *I* know how amazing it will look with the product I plan to put there!
Speaking of product, so you guys know I just got home from the National Stationery Show in New York. NSS goes from a Sunday, to 1 PM the following Wednesday. My friend (you know her, Stacey the florist!) and I landed at Penn Station about 11:30 AM the Monday of the show and spent every second, running up and down the rows until the very last minute Wednesday, looking for the most fun things to put on my new shelves.
I have spent about…oh God I have lost count…hours making wish lists, planning and re-planning my new card wall, agonizing over planner cover designs so you don’t have to, coordinating my new wrapping paper wall-OOPS! I shouldn’t have told you that! 😉
HOPE YOU PEOPLE APPRECIATE IT All this planning is to make Calliope a DESTINATION for stationery lovers. My spot may be small but hey! So is everything I sell! A handful of times, I have cried literally cried from excitement when a new store comes to my area (*cough* our first Old Navy) or I visit a new paper shop that just has SO. MUCH. FUN. STUFF. that I pretty much lose my mind. I want to make a store for someone like me to cry over.
Anywho. until the doors can open over the bridge, please continue to visit me at the studios on Adams Street. My hours are ALWAYS on Instagram, in my profile, and I try to also post them to Facebook as well. I have new graduation and Father’s Day cards on their way, and still the best birthday, baby and wedding cards because it’s THAT time of year, y’all…
That’s all for now! Thanks for reading! Time to get back to ordering…I AM AS EXCITED AS A HEDGEHOG ON A TRAMPOLINE!
